I posted here last yr and got some good recommendations for a trip I took to Switzerland and Italy. Actually learned about Canyoning here and ended up doing that in Switzerland (loved it).

So now I'm looking for any info/ suggestions for Portugal for the wife and I. Leave in a couple weeks and will be mostly in the Lisbon area. Here is what we do have planned:

Sun- Arrive in Lisbon, travel to Sesimbra. Staying there till Wed.
Mon- Relax on the beach, do some exploring/ hiking
Tue- Go Coasteering (similar to Canyoning) in the morning.
Wed- Head back to Lisbon
Thu- Do a wine tour during the day. Possibly go to Bullfight that evening.
Fri- Spend time exploring the city.
Sat- Return flight

All that said, any must do in these areas, places to eat/ drink or items to add to schedule.

I was just in Lisbon and Porto and probably enjoyed Porto a bit more....although both were great. In Lisbon, go to the Alfama and wonder around the medeval streets. There will probably be people grilling sardines to sell and the sardines are amazing......although you may be a bit late for the peak sardine season of June. There are also old ladies selling shots of Ginjinja (sp) which is a sour cherry liquor you should try. We didn't really get our eating going until porto. But we met a couple of americans in culinary school there in Lisbon and they recommended Cervejaria Ramiro for seafood. We went there one night and it was mobbed with a line out the door so we passed.....I don't think they take reservations. And that is the thing is lisbon, every good restaurant fills up fast so get reservations if you can. Drinking wise, we went to craft beer places since we aren't big wine drinkers. Lisbon is a late night city, if you walk around during the day it seems there is nothing going on. Walk the same street at 11pm and there are restaurants and cafes that seem to pop out of nowhere. We also did a day trip to Sintra to walk around the castles which was nice. (if you do go to Sintra, you can Uber to the top of the hill where the castles are for about the same amount as the shuttle bus costs.)

ETA: Lisbon is super hilly like San Francisco and the sidewalks are often less than 3' wide and off camber.....wear good walking shoes. Also, The Time Out Food Hall is good for lunch. We ate there more than I like to eat at food halls since it was a 5 minute walk from our airbnb.

Yes! I thought it tasted like Dr. Pepper haha.

Also recommend: Time Out Market, We Hate Tourism Tours X-Day Trip, rooftop bar of the Barrio Alto hotel for drinks, eat all the fish and seafood- it's so fresh. If you need a good gift to bring back to the US, the sardine tins sold in Lisbon are pretty popular.

Edit: if you have allergies to pollen, etc. I recommend take allergy meds before going to Sintra. We were there in early May and everything was lush and in bloom, but my allergies were out of control and I couldn't stop sneezing.

I found the other restaurants the culinary students suggested. Again, I didn't make it to any of these.

taberna da rua das flores
solar dos presuntos
tasca do zé mouraria
