ahhem...spin is something you need in order for the golf ball to take flight. The less spin you have the less straight your ball will go. The pure aerodynamics of the golf ball are built on it spinning to maintain a consistent flight path. You want spin on that ball, you need spin on that ball

The club interacts with the ball with a trampoline effect. The deeper the cavity behind the club face, the more the face of the club will depress upon contact...i.e. acting like a little tiny trampoline, and producing a more consistent trajectory

The club faces on the irons are rather fat.
