, if Unions are so great, as you claim
I never claimed unions are great. There are plenty of negatives about unions. I simply recognize the good they can provide to their members.
quote:
then why would Unions need the Democratic Party to survive and flourish?
The Democratic Party from the 20's through the 70's was a fighter for Unions and organized labor. For many of those same years Republicans attempted to stymie their influence, and the Democrats fought that. That started changing in the 80's when the Democrats started taking in more campaign contributions from corporations. Bill Clinton was the culmination of that.
quote:
Conditions are highly favorable for the Unions to have the upper hand... people simply keep rejecting it in larger and larger numbers.
Not really. Manufacturing has largely moved to the south where there is an ingrained mentality that unions are evil. A lot of people reject them out of ignorance. They've fallen for the Republican propaganda that they simply take your dues and do nothing to help you. Now, unions absolutely got greedy and more power hunger which contributed to the Democrats starting to abandon them, so there is a kernel of truth to that propaganda.
I saw a lot of this first hand growing up in the 80's My dad was a union guy and was VP of his local union. So certainly I have some ingrained biases I'll admit.
