Wtf Florida has a wild monkey population?
Several monkeys escape during the filming of the old Tarzan movies in the 1930's and 1940's that were filmed in the Ocala area. They remained somewhat protected due to the Silver Springs tourist attraction. Now, from what I understand the population has grown to a point of being a problem.

Well... which is it? Old Tarzan movie monkey, released pets, monkey's brought in as attractions or release science study monkeys with herpes? Or all of the above?

There is also a colony of non-native rhesus macaques which were introduced to the park in early 1938 by a tour boat operator, known locally as "Colonel Tooey," to enhance his "Jungle Cruise" ride. A local legend that they are the descendants of monkeys used to enhance the scenery for the Tarzan movies that were shot in the area in the 1930s is not true, since no Tarzan movie filmed in the area featured rhesus macaques

Either way, I had never heard of this colony. Cool.

One of the earliest Tarzan movies was filmed in Baldwin, Louisiana.
