One of the most fun things I did on my first weekend in Boston was a sort of impromptu freedom trail bar crawl. Just started in the Common, walked along the freedom trail, and had a drink or two at nearby bars along the way (started at 21st Amendment, then Beantown Pub, then Bell in Hand, etc.). Full disclosure, I stopped at the Old North Church because I didn't feel like going all the way to Charlestown.
