Yes, it's bullshite conventional wisdom. Being consistent for both teams is the bare minimum of standards. Real standards require you to be critical of an umpire calling strikes on pitches that are inside the right handed batters box. Sure, it's better if it's consistent for both teams, but it is still garbage.
