They don't believe they just have a good idea. They don't believe in compromise. They believe they are correct, and have the only correct moral position.

Had a good friend of mine, in a political discussion, when I said, "Look, I'd give on a few of x if we could do y, for sure, and I think a lot of conservatives would." And he said "I can't compromise because you're wrong and compromising for something that is wrong is equally wrong."

I just kind of sat back, shook my head and changed the discussion.
