that is where the issue started, it would die when i was in motion and took my foot off the gas to slow down. maybe this mine is just more of a problem now.

Yea it could be that. Carbs are like voodoo black magic. They do goofy shite for the tiniest little bitty thing. I hate them.

If rebuild kits are super cheap, maybe just rebuild it and see what that gets you?

IIRC there is an inherent design flaw in that carb. Been years but mine did the same thing. Clogged jets maybe.
Anyway best solution is aftermarket makes some direct swap in carbs that will fix the issue permanent style

What year is your CJ7? What carb do you currently have installed? If it is a Carter BBD, go ahead and replace it.
I put a Weber K551 on my CJ5 and it runs like a spotted arse ape!
