Guys uber always comes in a city at a rate that is attractive to drivers and riders then proceeds to cut the shite out of it and tells the drivers they'll make more because they will be busier. It's a bunch of bs. Rates are like 1/2 what they were in Baton Rouge for example. And you know what that gets you? Shitty drivers and shitty cars. The drivers right now might average minimum wage if they are lucky. Who's going to do that and drive their nice car in the ground? You better start tipping good drivers with nice cars or all you will get is shite service and shite cars. Because uber damn well isn't going to raise the rates. I used to drive a lot because I could easily make 25-30 an hour on the side but it was late nights and lost weekends, then the rate cuts came and it wasn't worth it for half or less. I haven't driven in over a yr and a half. I used to roll in my wife's enclave.

Truth. I started driving Uber after my wife died just to get out of the house and interact with people who didn't know me and that I didn't have to talk about my wife with.

For a while the money was really good. I was averaging about $30 an hour after taxes and milage. My car was the perfect Uber car. It was paid for, was in excellent condition, and I rack up a lot of miles, so the extra miles were not really impacting me.

The first time they cut the rates dramatically in 2016 I did one trip, saw what my new take was going to be and logged off. It simply was not worth my time anymore.

That is what most drivers with nicer cars did. They didn't want to absorb the costs for so little return. This tipping feature may bring some of the good drivers with nice cars back. It was long overdue.
