No, because he would've retired from hating soccer before the world cup.

Call him a pussy, but he was burnt out and alluded to 2012 being his last season multiple times.

I like Landon. I think he did a lot for US soccer, however, a player with that kind of mindset, taking a hiatus leading up to a WC is shite for building a cohesive 23 for a world cup.

Wynalda, McBride, Ramos, Reyna, Dempsey, Boca, Friedel, Keller et al. Would never take a cycle "off" if they had a choice.

At some point, it lays on his feet. We are not talking about Messi, Pele or Maradona we are talking about a sometimes squad player at Everton and a reserve at Bayern Munich.

Come on dude, the hiatus was from late 2012 to mid-2013. Stop acting like it was right before the final roster was due.

When he came back, the World Cup was more than a year away. And Jurgen had no problem giving him the keys on a Gold Cup squad that had 7 members who would go on to play in the World Cup.

And as for the cohesion aspect... Timmy Chandler constantly flaked out of USMNT duty, still made the roster for Brazil.

No, we're talking about Brad Davis
