They needed a strong, decisive leader. May failed at the role. That, along with other issues and a passionless, autopilot approach to the campaign, derailed the Conservatives in this election. They acted like they did not have to work for it.

that and fact May has been pretty bad dealing with terrorism in multiple positions

any way for some real discussion this was an upset that most didn't see coming.

The young voters showed up big time for Labour, while the conservatives thought they could be lazy and walk through it.

UKIP is now dead with only pulling half a million votes around the country. SNP also took a hit, so the Scottish independence vote won't be looking too good.

This result will force the parties to work with each other.

The assumption that terrorist attacks always accrue to the benefit of the right-wing party is mistaken in this case since the conservatives have been in power for several years, and the fact that both the Manchester and London suspects were known to police and had been reported by other Muslims makes them more of a competence issue.
