It's clear to anyone whose brain isn't infected with SJW disease that he wasn't being racist. People on the right might point out how a simple apology for inappropriate language while everyone acknowledges the good intentions of anyone who is conservative saying what Maher said wouldn't even remotely go over. The hysteria and character assassination and calls for career destruction would be intense.

This is cause for upset, not what he actually said...
Surprisingly though, why haven't the left gone after Maher more, his stance on Islam is far more conservative American than even some Repubs
