Raising the gas tax was a painless, everyone-contributes solution to the problem. But in this state, there is a pre-built wall of NO when you talk about raising taxes. I'm a conservative myself, but when I hear that there is a proposal to increase revenue and it's sole purpose is to be allocated to funding infrastructure and transportation projects I am all for it.
There are even two bills attached to the gas tax hike that would add accountability to the DOTD. Not that they are to blame. They are just working with the revenues they have, which aren't much.
