Why don't you cut out all the middle men and call the guy who gave you the business card?
If not, you're going to have to wait for your friend to contact him, and after that, you'll still be getting second, likely third hand information.. I would have asked for the guy when I went back in... and if you're worried about what they think about you for bringing it back, just remember, it's not what you say, it's how you say it.. treat them with respect and I'm sure they'll make it right

This is what I'd do, if he doesn't call back after a few messages, then hit your buddy up. Have him call the guy and say you're having trouble getting a hold of him.
