If a person were to build up a career or maybe something with name recognition like in politics or become well known in their community, I could see why they wouldn't want to change their name back

When I married my 2nd wife, she had been married for 29 years. She asked me if I minded if she kept her last name of her ex husband. Says she has been that name for the last 29 years. I told her I didn't mind if she wanted to go by her maiden name but if her ex was such an a-hole as she claimed he is, then why would you want ANYTHING to do with him. She ended up taking my last name.
