My company began offering a similar legal insurance service as part of our benefits package a few years ago. It wasn't very expensive and sounded like a decent deal so I opted in. A couple years later my wife goes stupid and we get a divorce. I tried using the legal insurance benefit.

Then: Oh I'm sorry, our service doesn't cover divorce. But we can refer you to a local divorce attorney and your initial consultation will be free.

Me: Isn't the initial consultation normally free?

Them: Maybe, I'm not sure. But I know the attorneys on our list won't charge.

Me: Ok fine. Just for curiosity what type of legal issues does your service cover?

Them: Well..... We don't actually cover the full expenses but we can refer you to an attorney in your area.

Me: So I'm really paying you a fee out of every paycheck for a referral service?

Them: Pretty much.

I cancelled that shite at the first opportunity.
