First Edition Prints

This weekend I passed through an estate sale and picked up a first American edition copy of The Silmarillion. I don't really know a lot about how the first edition collection stuff works, and this particular copy is in pretty rough shape and missing the dust jacket. Still, I thought it was pretty neat. I also have this old science fiction book by Olaf Stapledon that was a gift from a friend and some old chess pamphlets. I doubt any of it is worth anything.
If any one collects rare books and first editions it would be interesting to see what you have to say.

That is amazing. I have all of Stephen King's first eds ( getting rid of them over the last few months due to his very public political bullshite). I'm 55 now. I have collected almost every one since I was 16. I've moved dozens of times through the years but I've always kept them pristine. All of his major ones, including Dark Tower. Several signed. I feel like an idiot now.
But I'd give every one of them for that book. I much prefer a first Tolkien American edition to anything written by an author who hates my guts.

I have a hardback copy of Confederacy of Dunces printed from LSU printing press that may or may not be a first edition. I found it while strolling through the French Market playing tour guide for some out of towner friends. I think I grabbed it for around 6 dollars. CSB

Nice find. I have a first edition, first printing of Game of Thrones. If the old fart finishes the series before he dies, then that might end up being worth something on day.
