You definitely have my respect. I went through the pangs of alcoholism with my dad. We had a very close relationship but he couldn't let go of the booze. Hell, I've seen him drink a half pint of whiskey before going to teach his Sunday school class at church to either settle his nerves or get up his nerve. I never really knew which.
Anyway, he had a real embarrassing moment that put me over the top with him one day. As he was checking out what he had cooking on the pit, I made up my mind to finally face him about his problem. After a heated exchange, I told him that if he didn't do something about his problem I would never be back.
Three days later he called me from the hospital to say he was drying out. I can honestly say he never took another drop of whiskey or beer.
