Are they just trying to get the series to where the original Planet of the Apes takes over (Heston version)? I know they referenced the Taylor mission in Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Hopefully, they will explain how the east coast of the USA turned into a complete desert with canyons that appear to have been cut through tens of thousands of years of erosion.

I really enjoyed the first two in the reboot. Looking forward to this one as well.
