Yep, he was right to argue, but replay showed the ump made a terrific call.

You're correct! Besides the umpire positioned to the inside of the bag was the only one in position to see if his foot was on the bag. After the runner passed the bag the 1B adjusted his foot position but it was too late. The folks on TV and the fans down the first base side were all looking at it from outside the baseline. Besides it don't mean diddly now.
