You just fled a party where gunshots were fired. Someone shot at your car as you were fleeing.

Given this sequence of events, you would stop?

I wouldn't. I would drive to the closest safe place.

And that was why I mentioned how far they drove. If they drove a few blocks and called the cops (if they didn't know that cops were who shot them) that is different than driving miles and calling the cops an hour later. I didn't mean it like they didn't stop immediately, the article mentioned that they noticed the kid wasn't talking as they were driving, didn't mention how long or how far.
