I can't speak for anyone else, but I have deep ties to New Orleans, and so does my family, going back to the early 1700's from France. To ignorantly claim that anyone complaining about the statues coming down doesn't live there or doesn't have any ties there is incredibly insulting.

Further, to act like this is a manufactured controversy on their part completely ignores the fact that they magically became controversial after 100+ years of sitting silently.

The only person that manufactured this controversy is Mitch Landrieu, to drum up political support for the fickle minority community, who can't seem to think for themselves.

From speaking with you, it seems like he was successful.

Let me get this straight you support a group who fought for states rights, but have a problem with a city exercising its right to remove statues that the residents want removed?

I wasn't aware that there was a vote.

Its the lies and corruption that is at issue with most New Orleans residents - me being one.

And you know it. Stop dancing around the issue.

I have a problem with anyone erasing history to score political points. Perhaps we should forget about slavery too? It's not like it's really relevant anymore, right?

To your point of whether some residents want them removed, I'm sure some do, but let me ask you this- what residents wanted them removed before Landrieu decided for the minority population to remove them?

Most people didn't even know the obelisk was there before he said a word, much less what it was memorializing.

You think the majority of the residents wanted the city to spend hundreds of thousands of tax payer dollars to move pieces of rock? Please provide a link that states that definitively.

Why didn't we put this up to a vote then? Here's a hint, because the vote wouldn't have turned out very well for Mitch and he knows it.

Oh and I live and pay property taxes on two homes in Orleans Parish before you say anything. I couldn't care less about the actual statues. What I do care about is throwing my tax dollars away on something that has ZERO return on investment.
