I have never, ever seen a statistic that showed pitchers are more safe. I think this is such a bogus excuse. How many times in a season does this even happen to a team. 1x? The stories were rare then, and rare now where a pitcher actually got injured because of the bats.

A baseball traveling at a higher velocity does more damage to an object than a baseball traveling at a slower velocity.
More damage equals less safe than the lower velocity ball. Even if the difference is miniscule,there is a difference.
