BATON ROUGE – LSU gymnastics head coach D-D Breaux along with associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Jay Clark and assistant coach Bob Moore announced Thursday the signing of outstanding gymnasts Gracen Standley and Reagan Campbell for the 2017 class.

“We expect both Gracen and Reagan to be major contributors right away,” Clark said. “They both have a pedigree from fantastic club gyms. The training that they have had lends itself to a much disciplined style of training.”

Standley trains at Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy in Ohio under Mary Lee Tracy, the former coach of sophomore All-American Lexie Priessman. Originally from Mobile, Alabama, Standley has competed at the Nastia Liukin Cup as well as Junior Olympic (J.O.) Level 10 National Championships three times in her career.

“Gracen is from one of the finest programs in the country that develops outstanding gymnasts,” Breaux said. “She is going to be really solid all-around gymnast, and with her degree of difficulty, she will come in our program and compliment the gymnasts we have next season.”

Campbell is coached by Kim Zmeskal-Burdette and Chris Burdette at Texas Dreams Gymnastics in Coppell, Texas. Campbell is a three-time J.O. Level 10 National Championship qualifier and participant at the 2013 Nastia Liukin Cup.

Campbell owns 11 top-five finishes at J.O. National Championships, including in 2016 when she finished first on bars, fourth on beam and floor, and fifth in the all-around. Campbell owns three second-place finishes on beam over her career at J.O. championships and will make an immediate impact for the squad in 2018 on the event.

“Reagan comes from a fabulous program in the Dallas area,” Breaux said. “She is outstanding on balance beam and should come in and have an immediate impact for us. I look forward to coaching her on beam, and having her in the lineup with Erin Macadaeg and Myia Hambrick will be great. She is a solid all-arounder and a real standout on beam.”

“We know they will be great leaders in and out of the gym and their personalities will fit in with our style and philosophy of loving to have a good time while we work very hard,” Clark said. “We are excited for them to join us for the fall and the 2018 season.”

The incoming class is just a huge step down from the last few years. However, no one knew Gnat would be one of the GOAT for LSU gym when she came to campus. She was happy just to make a few lineups as a freshmen and look at her now.

The good news is we have girls who didn't compete certain events this year that can step in. Priessman, if she can stay healthy, can come in strong on FX and Vault but good luck with her going injury free all year. Macadaeg showed a nice bar set in practice and we are only losing one bar routine so that's already replaceable. Floor we will use Edney all the time. If Priessman is healthy then we only need one more person to step up. It is the event we may see the biggest drop off but our 2 of our seniors went up 1-2 so their scores were not typically the highest in our lineup. It will be replacing that guaranteed 9.9 from Gnat that we need to focus on. Edney is key to that and possibly Priessman.

Vault is the same story. Have to find 10 SV vaults to replace the two we are losing. Hopefully one of the new girls has a 1.5 that is consistent. Kelley will be depended on with her 10 sv vault.

Beam will be fine. Li is great and will be a regular. One of the new girls is apparently good on beam. If they don't find some big recruits for the 2019 season then we are in really big trouble.
