Do we actually need the amount of boots on the ground as we did in previous wars? Seems like we can do most the fighting without that large of an actual manned force.

Depends on objectives.
I thought we should have draft for bush ii's middle east wars. No 3rd deployment. No 2nd deploy for reserves.
