Thanks for the update.
I'm looking forward to the 2017 football season.
LSU is in good shape with our coordinators and talent.

Fall possibly. Not much going on in June, but player only practice, led by Etling.
Spring is very important at this position.

9/23 ain't good no matter how you slice it. Etling needs to be a lot better in the fall for this team to compete
Those numbers are not great, but least we forget it's a scrimmage and he is playing against the best secondary he will face all year. I'm sure (hope) that has a lot to do with it.

Dude don't start that drops BS, y'all did that last year and this year there is now excuses for DE. Every time he had a game last year just like the scrimmage stats majority of the board blamed the wrs so could drops, just stop it when is some of the blame gonna start going to DE.

I wasn't one of those ones making excuses. I was critical. I've watched the 1St two scrimmages live, and the guy has looked good. I can only tell you what I've seen this spring. He has not been perfect this spring, nor have his WRs. That's why they call it practice. But he seems to be improved, and in a system that fits him. Hard to get you to grasp that if you havent seen a live practice.

Lowell Narcisse needs to be groomed to take over the starting qb position immediately. This kid is dynamic, will be the qb we been waiting for in a long time.

How long do we wait on Etling's play to match all those great intangibles. Heart and taking a hit can only take you so far. I know it's just "practice" and it's just a "scrimmage", but most people's arguments for him was that maybe the coaches can see how many missed throws the previous guy had.
DE will never be held accountable with many people around here. It will always be someone else's fault. If he can't make plays, it would be time to move on.
It's starting to look like the dark horse who everyone thought would be the odd man out is starting to look like the best we have. Justin McMillan seems to be making the biggest improvements out of all the QB's. The melt would be epic no matter how well McMillan does.

I'm sure he will be. From what I've seen, that is a ways off. Right now, JM and LSJ are moving a lot faster in every respect. LN's upside is unquestionable. These other two seem ready right now.

Etling is the perfect qb for the offensive transition. McMillan and Scott both seem to be the real deal. When Sullivan and Davis are on the field it's smell trouble for Dbs!!

Unless you see the reps for yourself, you don't understand. No excuses, DE is having a good spring. According to "FBdad", this was not JM's best day. Early struggles with the snaps and handoffs. And what about LSJ,who is the only QB to have found the endzone each scrimmage. It's hard to develope a reliable opinion on the body of work, if you haven't seen the snaps. This is practice. And at practice, it can be difficult to separate one from the other. Also this stuff is closed so that coaches can control the message. They want you to believe this a close competition. When I'm present, and given the far greater number of reps that DE gets compared to the other guys, the focus is on getting DE ready to play.
The stat stuff is spinned for the media. That's all it is.

Thank you for you updates. Etling did all of those things last year as well. I know the media has a say, but if DE was putting up decent numbers in practice, it would be a lot of people here praising him even more.
The best things being said about him right now are things that have already been said. He's had 4 years already and it's cool he has the "grasp" of the offense. That was never in question, but the fact that he is inaccurate downfield is still very troubling. Same excuses with these issues last year.
And some of the throwaways should not have been. He threw the ball in places where he shouldn't have and didn't throw it in many places he should have. The obsession with him is unreal. I would love to be wrong, but he seems have always been the same guy he was in HS that didn't have great stats.

How so? His job is to manage and distributor to studs. We don't need a qb to light it up. Get it to the studs and they will light it up.

Sounds about like he did last year.

What if the others can do the same thing while also adding another dimension that Etling does not do well?
This is turning into a situation where people are in their feelings about a guy in his last year. I'm all for a good story, but not one that holds the team back if that happens.

Then that will take the ball out of someone else's hands, that is probably better at running with it.

Well sometimes plays break down and you need you QB to keep the chains moving. To win the NC, you're going to have to have a few of those playmaking downs. Most times Etling tried to do that last year he nearly got his taken off.
He did make a few improvised plays, but made far more bad decisions when trying to adlib. Not a part of his game. And throwaways are nice, but sometimes you need to give those tall WR's a chance to make a play.

The reality is, that if they bring a new guy on, it will probably be during the season.

Now this i dont get. The more you have account for, the harder you are to defend. A QB who is a run and pass threat, is like two players in one. The defense has to figure out, will he give it to the RB, or pull it and run? Or will he fake to the RB, and throw it? Thats kinda of a no brainer.
