Do you know why those supplemental insurance policies are so cheap? Because they are secondary insurance and your primary is what picks up most of the expenses.
No I'm not talking about supplemental insurance. You can get policies that just cover catastrophic events. You know, actual insurance policies. Or at least, you used to be able to. I am looking forward to this being a possibility again.

You said "I'd be better off removing my family from health insurance completely and just using an HSA to pay for expenses". I took you at your word. Now you are wanting just a catastrophic event policy. That's a different argument and one we agree.
I think catastrophic policies where you have an HSA to pay for routine stuff is what most people under 30 should have unless they have major family histories of illness.
