Guy in the driveway was apparently drunk and admitted it to the 911 operator.

Legal

He also (according to filings by his family), told the 911 operator that he was calling because his son had a gun and was threatening to get in.

Legal and was fearing for his life.

quote:

When the dispatcher asked if the driveway guy (dad) also had a gun, he told 911 operator that he was armed and fully ready but didn't intend to use it.

Legal.

Driveway guy later admitted to shooting a round off in his yard to scare his son away.

"Later" as in after he was tazed and hit his head? So, the officers responding did not know that at the time?

Discharging a firearm may not have been legal, but defending yourself is.

So, cops showed up to a situation that knowingly involved multiple people, shots fired, and a drunk guy.

If he didn't tell the dispatcher that he fired his gun and he didn't admit it till "later". Then they knew they were responding to a homeowner trying to defend himself.

They roll up on an old guy standing there and their first assumption was that this is the guy that is a danger?
