I would say they know whom they're picking to become contestants... the smartest don't make a cut for wheel of fortune

For a long time, I thought that maybe the Price is Right picked contestants at random, but this couldn't be further from the truth. I went to a studio taping a while back and read up on it. A guy who was a producer for a long time said in some article somewhere that if they just picked the names out of a hat, the show wouldn't have lasted 6 months. They are looking for a certain type that appeals to viewers...he didn't specifically say what, but I will take his word for it since that show has lasted over 40 years. When I went, they took people in groups of about 10 and some guy would ask questions and see what your responses were, your level of enthusiasm, etc., make notes, then figure out who they wanted to "come on down".
So I am sure Wheel does the same thing....you have to meet a certain prototype to be selected.
