Have to say I'm a huge fan of Isbell and Sturgill, though as someone mentioned, they're more Americana.
Anyone listen to Jason Boland and the Stragglers? Their High in the Rockies live album is amazing. Been a Drive-By Truckers fan for years- up until their most recent album. Enjoy Lucero as well.
Nothing I've heard lately is comparable to the real country music from back in the day.

I wasn't wild about their most recent album either and I really put off buying it. I am conservative and I'm not a fan of overly political, "in your face" type of music. Someone gave it to me for Christmas. I will say that it is actually good. Very political, but the songs are thought provoking and the music is great. There is a song on there called "Ever South" that is one of their best songs ever, IMO.
