For example, say a couple share a vehicle. Say the husband owns a suppressor in his name and takes the vehicle to the range over the weekend and his suppressor slips out of his range bag and rolls under the passenger seat. Say Monday morning his wife hops in the car and drives to work.
The wife would technically be committing a felony by being in possession of the suppressor. She would likely be in no trouble whatsoever if an actual firearm had been left in the vehicle (depending on state laws). That is absolutely ludicrous.
