Last dog was stricken with some type of organ failure. He had begun losing weight and acting sluggish so I had taken him to The vet. They gave him a pill, hoping it was only worms but warned me that due to his age, it was likely more serious. Walked outside the next day to see him sprawled on the carport with a black liquid seeping from his anal area. Called and reported same to the vet who gave me two options. Drive 45 minutes and pay him $50 for a lethal injection or handle it myself. I got my .22, loaded it with hollow points, placed it behind his right ear, closed my eyes and imagined my dog was actually my ex-wife, and pulled the trigger. Then I gave my old friend a proper burial.
