In all honesty I dont realy like this move.

The 3.2 Mil that we save this FA by cutting him in my opinion will not be enough to pay for what production he brings to the field. He actualy was alot better than most people gave him credit for. He may not have lived up to his price, but he was clearly a difference maker on the field at times, expecially by aiding the young guys to learn the system.
Worst case scenario he was a starting caliber safety.

Dont think that a 3.2 Mil rotational player will make up for cutting Byrd.

Next season was definatly his tome to go tho.

You do realize you can sign a guy for $10 mil a year but give him a $3 mil first year hit right? I mean that's about the same exact fricking thing we did with Byrd.

So that $3+ mil can get us a really good player.

You can take that $3.2m to get an impact player in the door with the cap space we have going forward.

It could be money used to re-sign Nick.

It could be money used to sign an impact corner or linebacker.

It could be used to bring in a guard or pass catching RB.

I can't judge it until free agency is over. That's certainly a possible concern. And honestly, Byrd was basically a rotational safety with Vaccaro and Bell. He showed those flashes last year, just had some awful plays to go along. Not all his fault either with the position the coaches often put him in

I don't really like the move either.

I'd be fine if we cut him later in the off season or even before the season if our safety depth look good, but now you got rid of a player without a replacement.

I don't think it's wise.
