Yeah... that... or professors want to protect their lectures from being replicated since they are private content.

You act as if she is the only professor to include no-recording policies in her syllabus. She isn't. There are many, many professors that do the same thing. I know that doesn't adhere to the strawman you're trying to build, but it's just a fact.

A student who pays tuition should have the right to record every damn thing their professors say during lecture hours as long as it is not distracting other students. Absolute madness.
They probably should just live stream these classes over the net so students don't have to waste time going in person and so that they can be recorded.
Probably should charge a lot less as well. Talk about a rip off.

You have no idea, from the OCC code of conduct:
2.4 ROLE OF LEGAL COUNSEL An attorney licensed to practice in California may accompany the Student to the hearing. The attorney’s role is to provide counsel to the Student without disruption to the hearing process. The attorney may not make any statements or presentations to the College Disciplinary Officer, Hearing Panel, or Appeal Committee, examine or cross-examine any witnesses, or present evidence or any written material to the College Disciplinary Officer or Hearing Panel or Appeal Committee set forth in Section
4.4. The attorney may not, in any way, disrupt or interfere with the hearing process. Any violation of this section shall result in the removal of the attorney. The attorney shall provide the College Disciplinary Officer with a retention letter confirming that he/she has been retained by the Student at least 7 days before the hearing so that the necessary arrangements can be made for a District attorney to be present at the hearing. The attorney's retention letter shall include the attorney's State Bar number and a telephone number. The requirements of this section shall also be applicable to Appeal Hearings as set forth in Section 4.2 of this Student Code of Conduct.
2.5 STUDENT RIGHT TO REVIEW RECORDS Students seeking to review or obtain copies of records relating to their investigation or to the outcome should refer to Coast Community College District Board Policy 5040 Student Records Directory Information and Privacy.
2.6 RECORDING AND PRESENTING WITNESSES Audio/Video Recordings – No audio, video, or other recording of any investigation, interview, meeting, or hearing is permitted.
This is just great, 7 days to answer any complaint by the school:
3.2 NOTICE TO STUDENT In all cases, the College Disciplinary Officer, or designee, will provide notice to the Parties, providing them with the following information, pursuant to Section 1.3: ? A description of the alleged violation(s). ? A description of the applicable policies. ? A statement of the potential sanctions/responsive actions that could result. ? A required date and time, for the Student to contact the College Disciplinary Officer within 7 days from receipt of the communication to schedule a hearing/meeting, superseding all other campus and work activities. The Student's failure to contact the College Disciplinary Officer within this 7 day period shall constitute the Student's waiver of their ability to provide a response to the alleged violation(s), and the proceeding shall take place as if the Student has not responded.

If so, how many conservative vs. liberal professors did you have? Did you even know if they were conservative or liberal? If so, did they go on rants like this professor did about their ideology?
What was the ratio of lib vs. conservative rants?

Or have copyright on their lectures so they can charge for copies of it.
You can't just go making copies of every text book you use for class and handing them out to other students.

Wow, you can have an attorney present, but they bound and gag them!
Nice job progs.

I'm involved with Auburn currently. Professors I'm around are most certainly more liberal leaning than conservative - a leaning that's observed at nearly every academic institution. And, in my fairly extensive history of classes taken, I've only had 1 professor go on anything that would qualify as a "rant" with respect to politics. Most have shown their leanings but allowed the class to come to their own conclusions. Maybe I've just had good professors, though.
Regardless, no-recording policies alone are not necessarily indicative of political ideology.

Not sure why this has to be turned into a political issue when most professors and universities don't allow students to record the class regardless of their political persuasion or the subject at hand. Anyone who has been to college would know it's a pretty standard thing for profs to want you to show up and actually engage in the class rather than have somebody record the lesson so you can watch later.

That wouldn't be very original.

No recording rules are pretty common in college today.
Maybe in clown college.
the vast majority of universities have a no recording policy as a general rule ... individual professors can grant permission ... many lectures are online, anyway ...
you trumpettes might want to step foot onto a campus before copying your fellow clintonistas and feigning outrage over nothing ...

You may want to check into Fair Use Doctrine. Particularly when applied to an academic setting.

Oh, maybe I misread the post I was responding to. It looked like someone generalizing about who might be prohibiting recording of lectures, and I was speculating it may be someone who wants to monetize their lecture, not just a bunch of socialists.

A professor in a classroom should not be expecting the lecture to be considered private.
Why exactly? You don't get to take a class unless you have paid your tuition and are registered to it.
You can't just walk around a campus and randomly show up to whatever the hell you want.
This isn't some free seminar held at the local Y.
