saw him a couple of days later in Deadhorse. This poor bastard was covered in shite from head to toe. They use some kind of binding agent to keep the dust down, but when it gets wet, it gets on everything and dries like gunite. He was missing one of his saddlebags. It stuck out further than he was used to and he had hit a bollard at a gas station. He truly looked miserable. I gave him a beer and tried to cheer him up. How many people ever see Deadhorse Alaska? Not many. How many ride a motorcycle from Ohio? None! Just you, dude! You're one of a kind, you've got lifetime bragging rights, etc.

When I was ring through New Mexico I ran into an older guy who had done a lot of long distance MC riding in his day. He had riden a KLR to Deadhorse back years before. He told me there were times of quiet and loneliness on the road, but the loneliest he had ever felt was when he had a flat, all alone, on the road to dead horse, and he pinched/cut his last spare tube.
