But he can still get there. This MoS origin story allows for actual character development of Superman. Rather than start off with the simple bland Superman you want, MoS allows for a more natural and even realistic progression. (It also allows moviegoers to finally see Superman unleashed.) Pa Kent raised him right and did his best, but he's still a young man who has to find his own way. And like most young men, they come to realize the father was right. Pa Kent held him back all his life. When Pa died, nothing--even physics--held him back. And maybe it took the Zod destruction for him to realize that Pa was right and he needs to be wise in using his powers.
Or maybe Snyder wasn't thinking any of that and I'm wrong.
