Hank Paulson and Wall Street want this so they can play broker between the federal government and big energy producers trading carbon credits. It's a nice risk free business...no wonder Hank is an advocate for this.

The politicians want this becaue its more tax revenue. Meanwhile the middle class will flip the bill with higher energy costs and the lower class will support it because they will receive subsidies and the upper class who give two shits about the costs of energy will feel good about their delusional selves that they are saving the environment or something.
