Same reason George W. Bush favored sending Elian back to his father in Cuba, and pardon me for quoting loosely: "Family is more important than politics."

If a political border is what stands in the way of your or my family's wellbeing, both you and I would cross it. It behooves us as a nation to legislate, interpret, and execute our laws with respect to the inevitability of these family values.

When you say "Well I never!" at the sight of an illegal immigrant, you're lying. Yes you would. Any of us would if our circumstances were shitty enough. We'd all do WAY worse than that if backed into tight enough a corner.

I don't think you can speak in generalities like that. Especially considering the millions of people living in poverty who don't attempt to cross borders illegally. I don't think you can speak to one's mindset given the multitude of difficult circumstances one might face with regard to immigration. You also can't speak to the attitudes one may have when confronted in a foreign land as an undocumented immigrant having crossed the border illegally.

I believe a lot of the hostility you're seeing is because there are those here who have crossed illegally, live here undocumented and then flaunt their undocumented status and decry the prospect of facing legal consequences.

Using your reasoning...who would you prevent coming in, and how would you prevent them?

Sorry, man. That was the inimitable Willy J. Clinton whose DOJ did that. April 22, 2000. Thanks for playing, though.
