I've waxed and waned over whether or not I actually expect him to finish them. I think TWOW is substantially done, but he's going to tweak, edit and perfect every chapter before he lets it go. That is part of what slows him down - his other interests are a big part of it, as is writer's block (all but conceded by now), but as he evolved - I mean you can see it from GOT to the last two - he's just a much older, more methodical writer. And, this meticulousness is not making the finished product any better, IMHO, although he may think it is more polished and thorough.

I could not agree more. I also wonder when the GoT finale airs if he'll feel less compelled to finish. IIRC they will have the same ending but different storylines leading up to it.
On another note I really enjoyed his Dunk and Egg novellas and I hope the rumors of HBO picking them up for a spin off are true.

It just gives him time to create more minor, uninteresting characters and water down the plot. I lost interest in his books a while ago.
