Spent two decades in healthcare, most of it in management/administration. Glad to be out but keep up with many old industry peers.
Obamacare has flaws, that's for sure. Anyone who confuses what we have with socialized medicine as it exists in most developed countries is being intellectually dishonest.
In the end, we'll see socialized medicine here in the States. It will happen in most of our lifetimes. And while it's easy to say repeal, the fact is big Pharma and health insurers made more money in the Obamacare era. Reality is most hospitals would rather see Obamacare stay as opposed to dealing with a new period of uncertainty with new rules and reimbursement. Not to say this is wrong or right, they simply finally got used to the ACA and don't want to start over again. It's risk aversion and nothing more.
That said, I'm convinced that as long as a for-profit company (health insurance) is committed to returning dividends to shareholders the system will never be as efficient as it could be. Wages will be marginalized for healthcare workers including Physicians as hospitals race to the bottom in terms of expenses as socialized medicine becomes the norm. Thus, the reason I got out.
