You can't fault southern fans for having a lot of so called "bandwagoners"... If you look they're all mostly deeply loyal to their State's college teams, but since for most of the 20th century there were basically zero pro teams in the south.
And the ones that did exist were so awful or under covered they got no traction amongst fans.
Just look at the Cowboys. Their local fanbase basically covers 4 or 5 states. Why don't the Texas Rangers have that kind of fanbase? Because they were nobodies forever.
It's not a coincidence that so many baseball fans in the south are usually fans of one of 4 teams.
Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox, or Braves. Take into account TBS and WGN for Cubs and Braves and then the other two teams that were always on national TV were Boston and NY. People are naturally going to gravitate to a team then see all the time, especially like most who grew up in the south, the nearest pro baseball team is 4-8 hrs away.
The south for football is peppered with GB, Steelers, Cowboys, and Patriots fans. Some might be Saints and Falcons, but those are the only two established teams besides Dallas. For about a 1500 mile chunk of the country.
