He stated that they were used for the first time for the Trump inauguration and were to blame for visual effect which made the audience look smaller. The white floor coverings had been used in 2013 when Obama was sworn in for the second term.[18] Spicer took no questions from the media at the press briefing .[16] Conservative political analyst Bill Kristol wrote: "It is embarrassing, as an American, to watch this briefing by Sean Spicer from the podium at the White House."[19]
