Yep. I even lost friends in college when I finally decided to be honest with myself and everyone else that Christianity was something completely unbelievable to me.

I can only imagine in the South the pressure the non believing kids must feel to conform especially if the teachers are part of it. I know several adults in education who would look down upon kids who didn't volunteer. They may not even know it, but psychologically and involuntarily they will favor the student who claims belief vs the one who does not.
