Clemson won by throwing the ball. Watson made huge 3rd down conversions in the second half. They also ran 99 fricking plays. A qb that can get out of trouble for an extra couple of seconds to deliver a ball down field is still superior IMO. Doesn't need to be full on dual threat. Also, how many deshaun Watsons are there this year? Takes more than physical attributes to do what he did last night.

I don't want to take anything away from the kid - he played a hell of a game (full disclosure - I dropped in and out in the 2nd and 3rd quarters - I didn't watch the entire game or even the finish). Clemson, overall, was 7-18 on 3rd down - if they would have converted just 3 or 4 more of those - that's probably worth another score.
Watson was 36-57 for 3 TDs (No INTs) - he only rushed for 43 on 20 carries, but really the 15-yard TD run was the only one that mattered.

True - which is a subtle flaw in the Bama system. Saban does get starry eyed (pardon the pun) and recruits players with gaudy measurables. But how many great football players does he get? Yeah, that front 7 is monstrous. Ditto for the OL. But they don't have a single "football player" as good as Watson.
That was one of the things that separated the 2011 LSU football team from the pack - we had great football players almost 2-deep all over the field. And I would have traded 3 or 4 of them for just 1 QB.
