Pretty sure western TN, Memphis, etc would be considered "Deep South" by most.
Eastern TN, not so much. More Appalachia.

Memphis actually refers to itself as the "Mid-South" FWIW. I think the Deep South stretches from Lufkin, TX to Columbia, SC.
