We've done this thread before. G in GIF stands for graphic, hence why some use the hard "G". The person who invented the format uses the soft "G" pronunciation, so that's the one I use. Everyone I know says the hard "G" though.

I use the hard "g" because I believe it should be pronounced that way and IDGAF what anyone else thinks.

Yeah I knew "gif" would trigger a few folks based on the last thread we had on the subject, so I threw it out there.

In reality, "gif" is one of those words that I avoid saying aloud like the plague. I usually stumble through saying it with a soft g, repeat it with a hard g, and then follow it up by saying "or however the hell you say it." It is a train wreck.

This was earlier in the thread, but I had this thought the other night. Sometimes I pronounce it wrong if the person(s) I'm with are saying it wrong. I don't feel like explaining it to them, so I just file their indiscretions away for my own records.
