Youre right for the most part but one can alleviate some of this by getting the exchange off deeper in the backfield holding the LBs longer and allowing OL to get to the second level or pulling OL to get down the line. At the same time if your OL isnt holding up well,"my guys are NOT bigger than your guys", then the DL has even more time to get off blocks and get a TFL.
Like I said, this hearkens back to the Les Miles philosophy of beating the man across from you. Thats a really simplified and dumbed-down version of football that doesnt give you any chance against a well disciplined team with equivalent or better guys on the lines.
Teams that run spread, HUNH, motions, trick plays, etc. do so because it levels the playing field when you dont have the oxes in the trenches to mach up with your opponent. This concept was completely foreign to your favorite former LSU HC and thats why he always beat the weak teams and had trouble against the strong teams.
