Exactly. LSU fans are freaking out because we haven't lost a coach so early in the year and it's thrown the timing all off. In fairness, though, it also does appear that the not-knowing has for the moment cost us a pretty big QB commitment and may be preventing us from closing the deal on a really good RB as well.

Many teams don't make a formal announcement because it gives the head coach additional recruiting visits, however the hire is typically a done deal and recruits are told who their coach will be, albeit with a "wink, wink".
In this case, however, O really needs to solidify the identity of the team since no one has a clue at this point what type of offense will emerge. I'd say, in this particular instance, he needs to get this done.
