How does that process take place? Do you "hire" the jockey you want or is there a pool of them that get their ride based on something like a lottery?
Aspy knows a lot more than I do, but a friend of mine has a race horse. He use to run it in Illinois, but now he runs it at Evangeline Downs in Opelousas. He has won a few races and placed & showed a few times.. And he hasn't turned a profit yet. Me and this dude shares a fantasy football team in a "big money" league. A few years ago we made it to the Super Bowl and the guy we were playing against offered a chance to split the pot and we agreed.. After splitting our earnings, we each got.. I think somewhere around $1300 and when he came get his share from me the first thing he said was "I needed this money, I have to pay for a few things with my horse"..
I don't know how he manages his horse business or what, but I just remember thinking "damn, if that dude is depending on fantasy football earning to pay for his horse.. Something seems wrong"

It is very hard to turn a profit unless you have a bunch of horses and start out with a bunch of money.
