Good luck with your race, Aspy.

I sometimes bet horses from the off track facility here in Colorado.. Would love to plunk down some money on yours as a vote of confidence, but I am guessing that "Kenneth" is lunch thread speak, not his real name.

Thanks

He may not be worth plunking down money on. The clues I've given are enough for a betting person to figure out. I'm going to go edit out my last one. Hopefully map saw.

Kenneth is is Td name.

I have a friend putting on a horseshow and I told her if help. Going out to set up the fences tonight in the freezing cold.

Thanks, Aspy. I'll figure it out based on that. Happy to place a wager. I'm not Peej, so I doubt that I'll jinx him.

Hasn't run since September. That and the class jump are the 2 things that worry me.

The favorite comes off a long layoff off a bad finish. Hoping he needs a race.

I always am. My parents came down for one of his races and my dad just kept going to the bar and getting me beer, which I would down. I'm a wreck before he runs.

Horse racing newb here...

Do you hire a jockey or do they ride for a share of the purse?

You pay a fee per ride but they get a % of purse earned.

How does that process take place? Do you "hire" the jockey you want or is there a pool of them that get their ride based on something like a lottery?

The agents get them rides. There's a group at each track. Jockeys don't usually travel to another track (unless it's close) except for a stakes race. If you have a good horse, you get your choice. If not... You get who will ride for you. Some jockeys have loyalty to particular barns and owners, and will choose that horse over one that they won on last time. Not always, though.

He's quick out of the gate but then needs to settle mid pack or farther.

He would definitely be mid pack or farther back with me on him. I'm 6-1, 240ish.
